South Shore Conservatory (SSC) will host two open rehearsals for student vocalists interested in learning about Pure Treble or Pure Harmony choruses on Monday, September 12 and September 19. Students from grades three to five are invited to sit in during Pure Treble rehearsal from 4:30 to 5:45 pm. Students from grades six to eight are invited to sit in during Pure Harmony rehearsal from 6:00 to 7:15 pm. All rehearsals are held at SSC’s Duxbury campus, at the Ellison Center for the Arts, 64 St. George Street.
Pure Treble and Pure Harmony, both full year programs, are auditioned choruses designed to educate and inspire through a high quality choral experience while nurturing musicianship, responsibility, team work, confidence and joy.
Music Director Kathy McMinn of Plymouth conducts both choruses and has taught elementary music for more than 27 years. Currently teaching in the Plymouth Public Schools, she recently received the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award at the Yale School of Music. McMinn was chosen from a pool of more than 300 nominees representing 45 states, by a panel of music professionals for her outstanding accomplishments and vision as a public school music teacher. She also travels to South Africa each summer to the Music For Life Institute where, in addition to teaching in the village schools and running training workshops for teachers, she works with the African Children’s Choir.
