In one of the lightest turnouts in memory, Tom Hurley easily defeated Richard Livingston to win a seat on the Milton Board of Selectmen. Hurley, a Milton native, ran a vigorous campaign. Livingston, who grew up in Dorchester, was absent from public view for a long spell due to illness. Hurley carried every precinct.
Joseph Manning, an East Milton institution, managed to hold onto his Board of Assessors seat. He narrowly defeated challenger Jim Henderson. Henderson had run last year, losing to incumbent Kathleen Heffernan.
Barbara Martin easily defeated Thomas Stanton for a seat on the Trustees of the Cemetery. She won all 11 precincts, taking most of them by a 3 to 1 margin.
One of the most hotly contested races was for Library Trustee. There were 5 candidates vying for 3 open seats. Incumbents Gene Boylan, Greg Buchanan, and Mary Regan chose not to run for re-election. The top three vote getters were Kristine Hodlin, Frank Schroth, and Mary Riffe Hiss. Paul Yovino and Ray Czwakiel were the other candidates for trustee.
Other offices were uncontested. They were Kristen Bagley Jones and Leroy Walker for School Committee, Kevin Chrisom for Park Commissioner, James MacAuliffe for Treasurer, and Emily Keys Innes for Planning Board.
