The Romance of Tea

The Milton Historical Society Annual Dinner will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 starting at 6:00 PM at the Neighborhood Club of Quincy, 27 Glendale Road, Quincy.

After an absence of many years, we are bringing back for your listening pleasure the witty, charming and informed Henry T. Callan whose topic is “The Romance of Tea.”

How an ancient Chinese medicinal herb changed social life in Europe and political life in America from early Colonial days through the Boston Tea Party and the Revolution, followed by the China Trade in tea, silk and porcelain.  His fascinating talk and colorful slides will delight everyone.

Mr. Callan holds Master’s degrees in History and Library Science.  At one time he was library director at Milton Academy, taught History at Assumption Prep in Worcester and taught a course in Antiques at Cape Cod Community College.  He is currently an antiques dealer and a member of the New England Appraisers’ Association.
