The proposals from developers for what they would do with and pay for the Stoughton land are under review by the Board of Selectmen The Selectmen are the trustees of the land left by Governor Stoughton to benefit the poor.
In an email exchange with the current chair of the Selectmen, Marion McEttrick, said that the proposals would remain confidential “until and if we select a finalist.” Their review includes input from and is in consultation with the Attorney general’s Office and Town Counsel. The Selectmen have also requested and are waiting for an appraisal of the property.
Ms. McEttrick noted that the selection or decision not to accept a proposal will be made in open session. There is not a current timetable for that decision yet; but it is being worked on.
Five proposals were submitted. The details of the proposals are not known. However, tow would build market rate homes. These come from Frank Mulligan, an abutter to the Stoughton land, and Pulte Homes. The Copeland Foundation will look to preserve the property’s character. Community Builders is likely to be proposing some type of affordable housing development. Lastly, Weston Associates is proposing a mixed use of condominiums and senior housing that would include residential units for Alzheimer’s patients. They would rehab the existing structures and also are considering farming a portion of the property.
