Henderson on why “Jim Henderson for Assessor”

from the candidate

There are four reasons I am the best choice for Assessor:

1. I KNOW TAXES – As a licensed and practicing CPA, I have over 30 years’ experience dealing with taxes at the local, state, federal and international levels. While all taxes are different, what remains the same, and what I am a true advocate for, is that all taxpayers want to be treated fairly and equitably under the law. Nobody wants to overpay their taxes!

2. I KNOW REAL ESTATE – As a licensed Real Estate Broker for over 30 years, I have attended or presented hundreds of seminars regarding real estate. I am known by my clients as the “Homeowner’s Tax Specialist.”

3. I WILL BE YOUR “TAX ADVOCATE” – In my numerous discussions with fellow residents from across the town, there has emerged one common theme: People are concerned and feel in the dark about their property tax assessments. I have no prior political experience or ties. I, therefore, come before you with fresh ideas and a promise to make the real estate assessment and abatement processes as open and fair as possible.

4. I LOVE MILTON! – My wife, Kathy, and I are 16-year residents, and we both have come to love this Town. Our two boys, Andrew and Colin, attend Milton Public Schools. Nana, Kathy’s Mother, completes our household, and we can’t forget our two dogs, Dexter and Delilah. I am a firm believer of “Givers Gain.” From coaching youth sports, to being the Cub Master of Pack 2, to being a Rotarian, to being a community volunteer, I have received so much more back than I have ever given. I promise the same dedication to the Board of Assessor position.

The Board of Assessors directly affects the wallet of every Milton taxpayer. It sets the tax rate and property assessments, and rules on all applications for abatement and exemption.

For Milton residents, property taxes represent the second highest tax they pay outside of their federal income tax. For those with fixed or modest incomes, it represents the highest tax they pay.

As a 30 year licensed CPA and Real Estate Broker, I intimately understand taxes and real estate. In my CPA practice I primarily assist clients in navigating the maze of federal, state and local taxation. In short, I am their Tax Advocate. It is this skill that I want to bring to the Board.
