Learn how to better manage diabetes, a disease that affects 25.8 million people in the US according to information data from the 2011 National Diabetes Fact Sheet released January 26, 2011. In fact, 1.9 million people over the ages of 20 were newly diagnosed with the disease in 2010. Once diagnosed, treatment of diabetes must be taken seriously. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, non-traumatic lower limb amputations and new cases of blindness.
You can learn more at Milton Hospital, a clinical affiliate of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center providing community-based health care. Milton Hospital will be hosting a free diabetic health assessment fair on Saturday April 30, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Nangeroni Education Center and Highland Lobby at Milton Hospital.
The fair will include presentations from a panel of physicians, who will each discuss a different aspect of diabetes to help patients and care givers learn to better manage the disease. Attendees will have the opportunity to consult with a certified diabetic educator, participate in a brief exercise demonstration, and gather information from a variety of diabetes exhibits.
