This sounds like fun and a great way to kick off spring!
BikeMilton invites you to celebrate the coming of spring from the seat of your bike on Saturday, 3/19. The ride will start at 10:00 from Paul’s Bridge (intersection of Neponset Valley Parkway and Brush Hill Road). Parking is available at the intersection and at the nearby Milton Healthcare site just to the south on Brush Hill Road.
Celebrate the coming of spring from the seat of your bicycle on Saturday, March 19th, by exploring the Neponset River Greenway, end to end, all the way to Boston Harbor. Join Boston Natural Areas Network and Greenway Council member and cycling enthusiast Doug Mink for an informative, free, guided ride to experience the entire Greenway first hand.
Along the way, you’ll be able to enjoy views of the river from the new section of the Greenway in West Milton, see public art, and learn about Milton and Boston history, including efforts to extend trails in Boston. There will be an opportunity to stop for snacks in Dorchester. This annual tradition of riding the Greenway from “Hills to Harbor” is a great way to put this winter’s dreary weather behind you.
Riders will meet at 10:00 a.m. at Paul’s Bridge, at the intersection of the Neponset Valley Parkway and Brush Hill Road on the Hyde Park/Milton line. Bring a bike; helmets are required. Riders should also bring a bottle of water.
The route will follow off-road bike paths including the Neponset Greenway trail and the Harborwalk, as well as incorporate some street riding. The ride is 11 miles one way, but the pace is casual and participants can complete all or part of the trip.
This ride features:
• Historic Paul’s Bridge
• Hyde Park’s Martini Shell, renovated last year, site of weekly events in the summer
• History of the Neponset River and Mother Brook, including information about upcoming free canoe trips and wetlands hikes
• Additions to the Neponset River Greenway and new bike lanes in West Milton & Hyde Park, completed last year
• Explore proposed future routes for the Greenway in Mattapan and the Harborwalk in Dorchester
• UMass Boston, Kennedy Library, Carson Beach and Castle Island
• View murals, visit the Pope John Paul II Park, learn about local flora and fauna, as well as efforts to build new recreational resources in Milton, Quincy and Dorchester.
This ride is co-sponsored by the MassBike MetroBoston chapter and the Boston Natural Areas Network and its communitybased Neponset River Greenway Council, which have been working with the Department of Conservation and Recreation to connect parklands along the river since 1990.
