Fontbonne students win Globe art & writing awards

Fontbonne Academy’s Julia Himmel ’ 13 was awarded Honorable Mention in this year’s Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Two other students, international students from China, Yutong and Yunan Xue ’12, were also winners.

The Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is administered by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, Inc. This is the 61st year for the Art Awards program, it is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in grades 7-12 in the visual and literary arts.

In addition to Julia’s five Honorable Mention awards this year, over the past two years she has been the recipient of two Gold Key and two Silver Key Awards for digital photography from The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards.

Of the more than twelve thousand works of art submitted by talented secondary students in Massachusetts on average each year, approximately two thousand pieces are selected for Gold and Silver Keys and Honorable Mention Awards.

Julia intends to pursue photography throughout her high school career at Fontbonne, continuing to submit her images to local, regional, and national competitions. She hopes to pursue photography in college as well.
