from the office of Senator Joyce

Senator Brian A. Joyce has been appointed by Senate President Therese Murray to several leadership positions in the Massachusetts Senate, including Chairman of the Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, Vice-Chair of the Healthcare Financing Committee, Vice-Chair of the Financial Services Committee, and member of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. During the 187th term of the Massachusetts State Senate, each of these committees will deal with important legislation regarding the financial health of the Commonwealth. In his leadership role, Joyce will focus on reigning in long-term debt, controlling the rising costs of health care, and further reforming the State’s pension system.

Joyce will also serve as a member of the committees on Economic Development & Emerging Technologies, Elder Affairs and Transportation. He was recently appointed to the special Probation Reform Working Group as well, which is tasked with making recommendations for reforming the State’s Probation Department.

As Chairman of the Senate Bonding Committee, Joyce is charged with reviewing all legislation providing for the giving, loaning or pledging of the credit of the Commonwealth. The Committee works with the Executive branch and the Treasurer regarding project expenditures, availability of funds, the sale of new bonds and the resultant debt obligations, federal reimbursements and other related funding and bonding issues.

“My role will be to help protect the State’s strong bond rating, help reduce our long-term debt obligations, and to focus on further improving our economy for all Massachusetts families. I will continue to work to create jobs, streamline the delivery of core government services and use taxpayer dollars prudently as we strive to get more Massachusetts residents back to work in well-paying jobs,” said Senator Joyce.

Joyce represents the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth district, which includes the Towns of Avon, Braintree, Canton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Milton, Randolph, Sharon, Stoughton and West Bridgewater.
