It is not strictly enforced but if you own property you are responsible for removing snow and ice.
Last July the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that property owners are responsible for ensuring safety. Naturally the property most people will wonder about is sidewalk(s) that run along their property. Municipal sidewalks are the responsibility of the town. However, according to the Massachusetts Real Estate Law Blog, “For residential towns without municipal-owned sidewalks, sidewalks remain the property of the abutting owner, and must be cleared by those owners.”
