Last night (9/8) Selectmen were hopeful of signing an agreement for Curry College to operate the Ulin Rink. However, the Labor Day Holiday coupled with the fact that there are three parties to the agreement (ie Town of Milton, DCR, and Curry College) and their respective legal counsels, each of whom needs to review any change large or small made by any of the other parties, results in a process that is anything but quick. Town Administrator Mearn reiterated that the rink will open on time (9/15) and noted that, in fact, there is some available ice time Curry is seeking to fill. Mearn is hopeful that he will receive revised copy today. The Selectmen were in agreement that they want to look at the final copy together. They have scheduled a meeting for 9/13 @ 6:30. As frustrating as the situation is Mr. Shields noted that “it’s much better than opening it ourselves.” No one disagreed.
Other discussion included but was not limited to:
- The need to address traffic concerns and safety at the intersection of Brush Hill Road and Neponset Valley Pkwy, a notoriously dangerous intersection. The Traffic Commission is going to be taking up a review of this on the 15th given a child was recently involved in an accident crossing the road. The Selectmen discussed at Mr. Mearn’s suggestion putting up a sign prohibiting traffic from turning onto Brush Hill Road from Neponset Valley Pkwy for a period of 45 days until a longer term solution is developed.
- Patricia Cahill will fill the vacant clerk position that had ~330 applicants, 29 from Milton. Mearn noted that many were highly qualified and attributed it to tough job market. Ms. Cahill is a Milton resident.
