Consistent with statements made over the last several months, Temple Shalom of Milton, which recently celebrated its 65th anniversary, has begun the process of looking for a location in Milton to build a new, energy-efficient, handicapped accessible building.
Temple Shalom, an independent congregation under the leadership of Rabbi Alfred H. Benjamin, recently put their property at 180 Blue Hill Avenue / Route 138 up for sale. The facility on that property has outlived its usefulness and does not meet the Temple’s needs. It sits on approximately four acres of land with an assessed value of $3.1 million. The temple’s congregation, whose numbers had dwindled substantially over the years, is experiencing a resurgence in membership. Growth is especially strong among families with young, Hebrew school age children.
Lynda Packer, Temple president, noted, “Our present facility is no longer a good fit. It is too big and outdated. We are all so excited about building a fresh, beautiful and modern Temple and Religious School and feel truly blessed to have the financial resources that will launch us into our next 65 years.”
One resident expressed appreciation, saying, “Temple Shalom and its membership have made vital contributions to Milton over the years. It is welcome news that they will continue to be part of the fabric of the town going forward.”
