Milton teachers participate in campaign to establish statewide sustainability curriculum

Six Milton teachers, five from Milton Academy and Pierce Middle School’s Jeff Stoodt, are participating in a week-long grant funded initiative to create a sustainability curriculum at the Summer Institute for Sustainability Education. The institute is sponsored by the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF), a non-profit organization that collaborates with schools to raise awareness of sustainable development and BLS Youth CAN, an afterschool club at the Boston Latin School. It is funded by the National Grid Foundation.

36 teachers from 17 schools will be trained on how to incorporate sustainable ideas such as understanding of ecological footprints and the  inter-relationship between ecosystems and the economy. Lessons will be piloted at the Latin School in the fall.

The institute runs from the 19th to the 23. Presenters include Superintendent Carol Johnson of the Boston Public Schools and a team from Youth CAN. The students will be presenting the MA Education for Sustainability Campaign. You can learn more about the campaign here.
