Gardner Museum Director of Security to Discuss Art Heists at MPL

Milton Reads kicks off its fall festivities with speaker Anthony Amore, director of security at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the author of Stealing Rembrandts: The Untold Story of Notorious Art Heists. An art crimes expert, Mr. Amore will talk about famous heists on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 pm in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton. The event is free and open to all.

A tribute to Judge Hurd

In 2004, The Honorable George Hurd, along with his with Elizabeth,  was invited on the Neponset River Boat Tour with Host Bernie Lynch,  to reminisce about his memories of the Neponset river. As a tribute to the late Judge, Milton Access Television  will be airing this special episode all weekend long at 5pm  on Comcast Channel 8 and RCN Channel 3.

Cost and efficiency of Fire Departments

At the most recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen Chief Grant of the Milton Fire Department gave his quarterly update. A princicpal issue discussed was the departments response to medical emergencies, the need and the cost (read post here). The issue of efficiency and cost of Boston fire departments is one the Globe wrote about recently. The article reports trends consistent with Chief Grant’s report: fires are down and the majority of calls the department goes out on are medical related.

Letter: Central & Eliot intersection a pedestrian hazard

I am a Milton resident and a pedestrian. Due to low vision I do not drive. I cross the intersection of Central Avenue and Eliot Street multiple times per day during my commute to work, when I exercise on the bike path, or frequent local businesses. Yesterday, I was almost hit by a car while in the crosswalk.

DPW notice: Hazardous waste disposal day

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, the Milton Department of Public Works will hold a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day for Milton residents. Collection hours are from 9 a.m. to noon. No early arrivals! The collection takes place at the DPW Yard (629 Randolph Avenue), rain or shine.
