Milton Reads kicks off its fall festivities with speaker Anthony Amore, director of security at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the author of Stealing Rembrandts: The Untold Story of Notorious Art Heists. An art crimes expert, Mr. Amore will talk about famous heists on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 pm in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton. The event is free and open to all.
Milton Reads is a community wide reading project sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library. Its 2013 book selection is, The Gardner Heist: The World’s Largest Unsolved Art Theft by Ulrich Boser. Mr. Amore has been leading the efforts to track down the missing artwork since joining the museum in 2005.
What drives a thief to steal a piece of artwork right off the museum wall, often in broad daylight? What really happens to the artwork after it’s stolen? Mr. Amore will share details about famous art crimes, including the Gardner Museum heist in 1990, when two thieves — disguised as policemen — stole 13 pieces of artwork, valued at $500 million.
