Phelan on short list for Belmont Superintendent position

The list of candidates to lead Belmont Public Schools and become the next superintendent has been narrowed down to three.

According to Belmont School Committee Chairman Laurie Graham, the town’s 10-member superintendent screening committee interviewed eight of 18 applicants for the job. (One of the finalists is Milton Assistant Superintendent John Phelan. Read the full story here. )

The Milton High School Debate team is proving to be stiff competition. Last Saturday Seniors Cormac Conners and Chris Dsida placed 2nd out of 54 teams at a competition held  at Lexington  High School. This followed another second place finish earlier in the month at Dighton Rehoboth HIigh. The pair were debating the benefits of the NSA’s domestic surveillance program.

Community volunteers honored for community service

Ten Milton faith communities plus Beth Israel Deaconess/Milton Hospital recognized individuals for particular distinction as community volunteers. These honorees were presented during the 2013 Thanks-for-Giving service. This service was organized by the Milton Interfaith Clergy Association and hosted by St. Mary of the Hills Church on Sunday, November 24.

Save the date – POWER UP this year’s Celebration for Education

The Milton Foundation for Education has announced their annual Celebration for Education: Power Up. The fun night is will take place at the Marriott in Quincy on April 12th and honor alumni Suzanne Lombardi (’80) and Paul Fitzgerald (’78). The celebration is the MFE’s biggest fundraiser and this year they are looking to have the community come together in support of technology for the 6 Milton schools.

DPW Notice: Yard waste collection delay

Due to the large volume, large waste collections are behind schedule. Waste Management has extra trucks on for today and expect all collections for last week to be completed by end of today, Monday 11/25.
