A group of Milton residents stopped by the Bean & Cream cafe in Hyde Park last week for the opening of a photo exhibit celebrating the Neponset River and advocating for its preservation. The exhibit runs for 3 months and incudes work from Milton residents.

Chef Ryan Escude of 88 Wharf Street restaurant here in Milton recently appeared on the Chef’s Table, an instructional cooking program. He demonstrates in detail how to make a seared duck with a minted farro salad and truffle demi glace. Milton resident honored at Red Sox game
How cool is this? Ms. Marsha Maurer was honored with the medical all star award by the Red Sox organization last night. Maurer, a Milton resident, is Chief Nursing Officer and SVP, Patient Care Services at Beth Israel Deaconess. She got a shirt and everything! Maurer is a modest person who makes a tremendous impact on people’s lives. Congratulations Marsha!
Last Week for Backpack/School Supplies Drive at Milton Library
Friday, July 25th, is the last day for the backpack/school supplies drive at the Milton Public Library for the 500 children served by the Interfaith Social Services (ISS) food pantry in Quincy each month. ISS is one of the largest food pantries in Greater Boston, serving 20,000 South Shore families a year.

The town is inviting bids for the demolition of that portion of the former Hendries Building located at 0 Central Ave, Milton, Ma, 02186 owned by the town. Bids will be accepted until 4:30 P.M. Free Film: Sherlock Holmes at the MPL
Robert Downey, Jr. breathes life into the great detective. Sherlock Holmes (2009) will play in the Milton Reads series on Tuesday, July 29. The free film will air at 6:30 p.m. in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the Milton Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library and is part of the Milton Reads special events.
A perspective on standardized testing
Testing is a big issue in education. It measures achievement, points to where progress needs to be made, and provides some accountability. The BBC recently reported on a letter sent by a teacher, Rachel Tomlinson of the Barrowford primary school in Lancashire, to her students regarding their standardized test scores. One of parents posted the letter to Facebook where it went viral. Here is the letter.
