Despite what some may think, the blizzard of ’78 really was not worse than this. Only once in the last century did we receive more snow than we have with these two recent storms and it wasn’t then. In ’78 the National Guard was called out and the T stopped running . . . for a week, but as DPW Director Joe Lynch pointed out at last Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen, we now have better technology, better forecasting, better equipment, and better communications. Which is why despite the second heaviest 7 day snowfall on record we were all able to get around within 24 – 48 hours and that’s pretty amazing. So thank you DPW, MPD, and MFD.

Fuller Village Residents took part in a heart pumping class on Friday, February 6th to celebrate National Wear Red Day in honor of women during American Heart Month. Class was led by Kara Bligh and Christine Stanton of Fuller Village in Milton.

Last night the Board of Selectmen extended the demolition date for the Hendries building to February 24th. It is unlikely that date will be met but the board has opted to go with more frequent extensions as a means of keeping the issue top of mind. Member Keohane said he did not think the building would come down before April or May. Key to getting the building down is a demo permit from the Conservation Commission which neither the town nor Carrick Realty have yet obtained.

The Rev. Shelly Davis was the speaker at the latest Milton Rotary Club meeting.  Rev. Davis was recently called as pastor at East Congregational Church and has been serving the congregation since last August.  She moved to Milton with her partner Beth Olson in November.  Rev. Davis has been listening carefully to find out which issues she ought to be concerned about as a new Milton resident and leader of a local faith community.

Pending winter storms for today and this Sunday / Monday have heightened the concern for further narrowing of roadway widths. Further narrowing of roadways could affect emergency apparatus access and, at the very least, will slow delivery of regular services like trash removal, oil deliveries, and normal movement of neighborhood traffic.
