State to promote Walk or Bike To School Day in Milton on May 4

MassDOT and the Safe Routes To School program are promoting ‘Walk/Wheel On Wednesdays,” or “WOW.”  The program is designed to promote good health by encouraging parents and students to regularly walk or bike to school.  A secondary benefit of the program is to reduce the traffic jams caused when hundreds of parents drive their children to and from school.

The police log: missing downspouts; harassing calls to principal

The following are excerpts from arrest and incident logs provided by the Milton Police Department. All suspects are presumed to be not guilty until proven otherwise in a court of law.

On April 25 at 3:37 p.m., a caller reported vandalism to copper downspouts at the East Milton Library building on Edge Hill Road. An officer reported that multiple downspouts had been removed from the building, (Read the full story here.)

Letter: Hodlin thanks supporters

I want to THANK all those who helped me get elected to represent the citizens of Milton as Library Trustee.  The outpouring of volunteers who held signs, wrote dear friend cards and provided financial support was humbling.  I also want to thank my neighbors in Precinct 3 for re-electing me to Town Meeting.

Quincy court going live on the Web

Exhibit: International Labor Posters

Stephen Lewis, a long-time activist in the labor movement, presents labor posters from several countries.  Their theme is about the day that is recognized in almost every country to celebrate workers.  Visitors will have a chance to see depictions of that day from different artists who create from the varied cultures and histories of their environments.  Mr. Lewis has staged a number of exhibits on contemporary political and worker issues in locations around the state.  For more information, contact lewisposters@gmail.com.

Aged Cow Manure Sale – Milton Garden Club

Aged cow manure is perhaps the single best ingredient for fertile garden soil because cows’ digestive systems famously include four stomachs which digest and dissolve any weed seeds they have grazed and break nutrients down for easy access. Beth Israel Deaconess closer to control over Milton Hospital finances

Milton Hospital has agreed to cede some control of its finances to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston in exchange for greater security.

Under a so-called “memorandum of understanding” announced Wednesday, Milton Hospital would keep its board of directors and would continue to oversee the hospital’s day-to-day operations. (Read the full story here.)
