Milton Library offers new music service – FREEGAL

The  Milton Public Library is now offering the Freegal Music Service. Freegal is a download music service sold to libraries for free use by their registered cardholders. The music is free of digital rights management (DRM) software. Thus, users can easily transfer music they download to other media (copy to iPod, burn CD etc.)

You log into the system using hour library card number and PIN. After you accept the terms and conditions you are presented with access to the entire Sony Music Catalog.  Your one year trial subscription which allows for 3 downloads a week is provided by the generous support of the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

Here are the instructions, also available on the library’s home page:

  1. Get your Library Card & PIN
  2. Log on to freegal
  3. Download 3 songs per week – Free!

Our Subscription to freegal gives you access to the entire Sony Music Catalog of 500,000 titles, and 30% of the current new music market. Any song you download is your MP3 to keep – No DRM. One year trial subscription provided by the Friends of the Milton Public Library!

You can browse alphabetically as well as search. You can listen to preview clips. And they call out top 10 songs both locally and nationally (The Glee Cast and the British sensation Adele are particularly popular now). We gave it a go and it is completely painless. While it is restricted to the Sony Music Catalog – that is one rich catalog. We quickly looked up and downloaded Spain performed by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Es no problema. Try it out!
