Solar panels slide off town hall roof

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 5.01.56 PMTwo solar panels have fallen of fallen off the roof at town hall. Others appear to be buckling and at risk. Town officials will monitor situation. The structure is believed to be sound. Meetings at town hall have been cancelled for this evening.

Board of Appeals approves Hendries comprehensive permit (40B) application

A hearing that began in July of last year for Milton’s first 40B application closed last night. The 3 member Board of Appeals, Chaired by Brian Hurley, deliberated briefly and ruled unanimously to grant the permit which will allow Carrick Realty to move forward with construction of a 57 unit apartment building at the site of the Hendries building. This is the first 40B development to be approved in Milton.

Foundation for Education invites nominations for Teacher of the Year

The Board of the Milton Foundation for Education invites all members of the Milton Public Schools community to nominate a teacher for our OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD PROGRAM, also known as TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

Since 2001, the MFE has recognized the extraordinary contributions made by our teachers in the Milton Public Schools by celebrating a teacher from each school for their dedication and determination to bring quality educational experiences to our students. To date, 101 teachers have received this honor.

Brief bits: FY16 budget nears closure; Ed Duffy to serve out term; Burnes kicks off campaign

The Warrant Committee for the second year dispensed with an all day meeting in favor of a ~2 hour night meeting much to the relief of the vested parties (i.e. town officials and department heads). The all day meeting was a session in which department heads addressed lingering questions regarding their budgets and made last minute pleas for funding of priority items. As it was televised, it also gave residents an opportunity to hear from department heads first hand on their needs and their proposed funding. However, as Warrant Committee Chair Ted Hays noted last week, all presentations to the Warrant Committe are now televised. Department heads have already made their presentations, had their budgets vetted, and addressed the questions and issues raised by the committee.
