A small business can make a big difference. So it was during the Civil War when Bent’s hardtack crackers provided sustenance to Union troops. At the Battles of Chattanooga troops were at risk of starving when General Joseph Hooker of Massachusetts established a supply line dubbed the “cracker line” after the hardtack from Bent’s.
Thanks to the Joyces for sending this along. If you’re travels take you to Tennessee you can find this bit of Milton at the Battles for Chattanooga Museum.
