Community Preservation Act passes in Canton

The third time was the charm in Canton, where voters backed the adoption of the Community Preservation Act after rejecting the program in 2006 and again last spring.

While Canton was among seven communities statewide to adopt the Community Preservation Act and an accompanying tax surcharge Tuesday, neighboring Milton was one of two to pass it up at the polls. (Read the full story here.)

Milton to receive $1 million MassWorks grant

Senator Brian A. Joyce has announced that Milton will receive a $1 million MassWorks grant from the state. The grant represents a significant state investment in the Central Avenue and Milton Village business districts. It comes at a good time. The area is showing renewed vitality.

Milton Town Hall now on Facebook

Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Tom Hurley, posted to Facebook this morning. He is alerting residents to a Milton Facebook page which can be found here. Tom writes, “At my suggestion the Town has set up a Facebook account as a means reaching large numbers of residents with sometimes vital and sometime not so vital information and to hear back from residents of the Town. If you have not already done so please find the Town’s Facebook page and like it. Just another FYI the Milton Police and the DPW also have Facebook pages. Please pass the message on.”

Fontbonne Academy to stage “Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

Fontbonne Academy’s Good Fountain Players will perform the play, “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” this weekend in the Fontbonne Auditorium, located at 930 Brook Road in Milton. The showtimes are: Friday, November 16, and Saturday, November 17, at 7 p.m. There will also be a matinee on Sunday, November 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the door prior to each performance. Get into the holiday season with this dramatic production based on the Christmas classic!

Mtg Notes: School Committee 11.07.12 (1) – The Superintendent gets her eval & NEASC update

It was a long meeting. The School Committee covered three important issues and after sitting on the agenda for over a month they finally gave Superintendent Gormley her evaluation, which with luck will not be done this way again.

Gormley’s evaluation came toward the end of the session. Each member of the committee spoke to Gormley’s performance and they were uniformly positive in their critiques.
