Town Meeting passes assisted living article

Photography at town meeting and its appropriateness was briefly addressed by the Town Moderator last night at the beginning of last night’s session. It can be safely reported without disrespecting anyone that articles 23 – 43 of the warrant passed last night. Town Meeting will resume on Monday at 7:30. Further coverage will appear shortly.

 

Milton Kids Road Race

Organized by Milton Girl Scout Troop 74134, this is a 2.2 mile road race for kids created by kids! Kids ages 4-14 years old are all welcome to participate. The race is to promote health and wellbeing for all kids. We are raising money to help refurbish the scout house, as well as toward trips that we plan to take in the future. Kermit is an energetic affectionate 10 year old neutered male chihuahua. We named him for a certain famous frog who also has big googly eyes and a good sense of humor.

Lightning strikes Central Avenue; power outage

Lightning struck a telephone pole on Central Avenue causing an accident and knocking out power for residents in the vicinity. The lightning struck at approximately 4:50PM. At least one person was taken to the hospital. Nstar arrived on the scene promptly and is working on restoring power.

Town Government Study Report released

Town Hall has posted the Town Government Study Committee Report. The report results from the work of the committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Chaired by Rick Neely, the committee’s report has been posted on the Town of Milton Website. It contains recommendations developed over the past year. You can find the report  here.

Riverside Theatre Works presents Hairspray

Screen Shot 2013-05-09 at 6.48.18 AMRiverside Theatre Works will present the Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray beginning May 10 and running through May 19. Two Milton residents are involved in the production. Christopher Young plays IQ, a member of the Corny Collins “Nicest Kids in Town” ensemble. Marilyn Whipple is the Musical Director for the show.

Aquatics at The Egan Center Opening May 6, 2013

This Private Aquatics Facility is offering multiple membership options for adults. The facility has a 6 lane 25 yard pool. The pool temperature is kept between 77 – 79 degrees. Memberships include the use of all exercise equipment. Adult locker rooms with showers are available for your use. The pool is located at The Egan Center 411 Unquity Rd. Milton, MA within the Blue Hills Reservation.

Town Mtg Day 2: Override request for obligated medical expense & funding for phase 2 of Master Plan approved

There was no disagreement among Town Meeting members on the need to finance the medical expenses of a severely injured firefighter; but there was not unanimity on how to do it. Nor was there agreement on the need to fund the second phase of a new Master Plan for the town; but a request for a standing vote on the article did not alter the outcome. The town will fund the plan.
