Mac D’Alessandro makes it official, will challenge Lynch for Congressional seat

Today (05.05.10) Mac D’Alessandro of Milton announced he is in the running for U.S. Congress from Massachusetts’ 9th district.

Mr. D’Allessandro has collected 5,000 signatures from registered Democrats and unenrolled voters in the two weeks leading up to yesterday’s May 4 deadline for submitting signatures to city and town clerks’ offices. That gives him a very comfortable cushion. The city and town clerk’s offices will need to certify the signatures that have been submitted. The campaign must then submit a minimum of 2,000 certified signatures to the Secretary of the Commonwealth. Given that well over twice the number have been submitted, it is expected that Mr. D’Alessandro will earn a spot on the Democratic primary ballot.

Signatures are due to the Secretary of the Commonwealth by June 1, at which time the official confirmation of D’Alessandro’s spot on the Democratic primary ballot will take place.

Mr. D’Alessandro said, “I’m grateful for and humbled by the backing my campaign has received from people across the district. This grassroots support is the foundation of what will be a vigorous campaign that gives voters a real choice.  If the voters of the 9th district send me to Congress, I will be a voice for working men and women.  I’ll fight to ensure that the well-being of the Fortune 500 is not put ahead of the good fortunes of our families and communities.”

Mac D’Alessandro has worked for the Service Employees International Union, most recently as New England Political Director for the past 9 years.  Prior to working for the SEIU, he worked for Greater Boston Legal Services, directing legislative efforts to help families combat poverty. He lives in Milton with his wife and two children.
