Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee hosts Used Bike Sale and Community Ride to Celebrate Bike Month

The Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee invites the public to attend the Used Bike Sale on Saturday, May 16.

Held at the DPW Day Open House at 629 Randolph Avenue from 10 AM to 2 PM, the bike sale is an opportunity to get great deals on used bikes for the kids. Some bikes for adults will also be available, as well as safety tips, local bike maps, tubes and other bike accessories, and a free raffle for a gift certificate to Dave’s Bike Infirmary.

The Bike Committee will also accept donated bikes on Friday, May 15 from 5 to 6:30 PM, and Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10 AM. This is a good opportunity for parents to trade up as the kids grow.

Donations support the Bike Committee’s efforts to make Milton a more bicycle-friendly community, by funding projects like the Milton Farmer’s Market bike-to-market coupons, bike maps and event programming and promotions. Unsold bikes will be donated to Bikes Not Bombs, and support their local and international mobility programs.

There will be plenty of other family-friendly activities at the DPW Open House, including free food from the Department of Public Works, modern and antique trucks and heavy equipment for kids and curious grown-ups to explore, green tips and news from Sustainable Milton and BJ Hickman’s recycling magic show to entertain children.

On Saturday, May 23, the Bike Committee will celebrate National Bike Month and Milton’s recent Bicycle-Friendly Community award with a community ride showing off construction progress on the Neponset River Greenway trail. The ride will depart from Milton station at 10 AM, and follow the trail along the river for a casual-paced 11-mile trip showing how the trail connects neighborhoods in Milton, Dorchester, Mattapan and Hyde Park.

The Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee meets periodically and advises the Town of Milton how to improve bicycle safety and encourage more bike exercise and transportation in and around Milton. For more information, visit www.bikemilton.org or follow Bike Milton on Facebook or Twitter.
