Spring is finally here and once again, the Milton Garden Club is happy to offer premium aged compost for sale. “Black Gold” is organic, composted cow manure that comes from a dairy farm in Western Massachusetts. When you purchase our compost, you not only get a wonderful, healthy way to improve your garden’s soil, but you also support the local farm that produces the compost. The 40-lb. bags of Black Gold are $7.50 per bag and suggested use and coverage is approximately 1 bag per 20 sq. ft. of bed area for 1” compost worked into soil or approximately 2 bags per 1000 sq. ft. to top dress lawns, apply spring & fall.
Orders must be received and prepaid by April 20th. Late orders will be accommodated on an as-available basis. Pickup will be on upper Canton Avenue anytime between Friday May 1st and Monday May 11th, and delivery is not available. You’ll be notified by e-mail of the exact pickup location when we receive your order form and payment.

The Milton Garden Club was founded in 1924 and is a member of The Garden Club of America. Now in its 90th year, the club continues its core mission of promoting gardening, education and service in an increasingly busy environment. Fund raising, including the compost sale, enables the club to support five Milton gardens for the public to enjoy. The five gardens are the historic Fletcher Steele/Spalding Garden, the Lily Corner at the intersection of Brook Road and Canton Avenue, the perennial garden at the entrance to the Milton Public Library, the grounds at the Powder House on Canton Avenue across from the Town Hall and a native plant garden and rain garden at the Trailside Museum. In addition, members fill town planters with season color and maintain the horse trough diagonally across from the library.
