On Tuesday, April 14, the Friends of the Blue Hills will host its first Peek-a-Blue Hike of the year. The free, one-hour guided hike will start at 11 a.m. at the Houghton’s Pond main parking lot at 840 Hillside Street. Complimentary refreshments will be served, and there will be a simple scavenger hunt for parents and children with all children receiving a prize at the end.
The Milton Junior Woman’s Club provided a start up grant for Peek-a-Blue Hikes in 2014 as part of the FBH’s 35th year celebration. Thanks to another MJWC grant this year, the Friends of the Blue Hills will be able to offer the hikes every other Tuesday morning throughout the year and will be providing free water, juice and healthy snacks for all who attend. A volunteer naturalist from L.L. Bean Legacy Place in Milton will lead the hikes, and families are invited to bring a picnic lunch to eat afterwards.
The Friends of the Blue Hills is one of 15 non-profit organizations to receive a grant from the Milton Junior Woman’s Club in 2015. The grants are the result of fundraising efforts during the year and reflect the funding philosophy of the MJWC to provide financial support to programs and organizations that strengthen the community and enhance the lives of Milton residents.
