This winter season can be tough for everyone, especially for those who don’t have a home to stay warm in. St. Mary of the Hills School wants to keep everyone safe and warm this winter season. As part of the “Service Day” for Catholic Schools week, SMH students decided they wanted to help out the homeless by donating socks and sandwiches to a local shelter.Even though the snow days caused the school to be closed for half of Catholic Schools week, the students still found a later time to make the effort worth while. Students brought in cheese, deli meat, and loaves of bread. Students also thoughtfully brought in packages of socks to donate to the homeless so they can stay nice and warm.
The 6th through 8th grade Student Council all gathered in the cafeteria last Friday, where they all put on gloves and worked together to make over 300 fresh sandwiches. Academic Advisor, Pam Vasta, and third grade teacher Devon King hand delivered the socks and sandwiches to the Bristol Lodge Shelter in Waltham. St. Mary’s students said they loved the feeling of helping the community, even with something as simple as sandwiches.
