News from Milton High School
In response to racial injustices over the last year, Milton High School is hosting a distinguished panel of African American leaders in Massachusetts to discuss civil rights in the United States and the Greater Boston area. Fletcher “Flash” Wiley, Attorney, will moderate this discussion panel. Panelists will include Kenneth Guscott, former President of the Boston Chapter of NAACP; William “Mo” Cowan, former U.S. Senator; and J. Keith Motley, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts-Boston. The panelists will share their personal journeys toward success, justice, and equality, as well as contributions that they and other prominent African American men have made to the state of Massachusetts. The conversation will take into account the complex history of race relations in Massachusetts, beginning with its role in the slave trade, and its subsequent experience with the abolitionist movement, Jim Crow, and desegregation. Ultimately, the panel will discuss local responses to racial injustice. The event will conclude with a discussion of the future of race relations.
50 Years Later will be held on Wednesday, February 11th from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Charles C. Winchester Auditorium at Milton High School in Milton, Massachusetts. The event is free and open to all. Doors will open at 6 pm with a performance by Milton High School’s Jazz Ensemble shortly after.
The Milton High School Diversity Committee created 50 Years Later due to the enthusiasm of gentlemen like Mr. Wiley and a strong cohort of activist students from Milton High School to share their experiences. Our hope is to bridge generations and raise awareness among our students and community about the continued relevance of these issues.

Fletcher “Flash” Wiley, Attorney, Chairman and CEO of The Centaurus Group LLC, Counsel to the International law firm, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Investor, and Philanthropist, with involvement in a host of business, civic, and charitable organizations.
Mr. Kenneth Guscott is the founder of the Long Bay Management Company, former head of the Boston NAACP, leading minority business entrepreneur and community activists in Boston, Milton Resident.
Mr. William “Mo” Cowan, Counsel to Mintz Levin and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ML Strategies, Former U.S. Senator.
Dr. J. Keith Motley, Chancellor of UMASS Boston, founder of the Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, founder and education chair of Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts, Inc., and the Paul Robeson Institute for Positive Self-Development.
About the Milton High School Diversity Committee
Milton High School’s Diversity Committee is comprised of teachers, students, and community members. The Diversity Committee’s primary goal is to improve the learning environment for students of all racial and cultural backgrounds within Milton High School so that all students are able to achieve their potential.
