Friends of Crane Field to host 2nd annual neighborhood celebration

At the last regular meeting of the Milton Rotary Club on October 8th Michael Maholchic, spokesman for the Friends of Crane Field, reported that $10,000 worth of tree work, a new flag, a freshly painted flagpole, and a second annual neighborhood celebration are in the works due to the efforts of the Friends.

The neighborhood block party will take place on Saturday, October 18 (rain date October 19) from noon to 3 PM with music by the Full Turn Band, games, food and beverages. There will be an opportunity to donate non-perishable food to the Milton Food Pantry, and a 50-50 raffle to raise money for Crane Field improvements.

The trees will be a substantial size with a caliper (trunk dimension) of 3 1/2 to 5 inches. They are being supplied and installed at a discounted rate by A. Thomas & Sons Nursery & Garden Center of Milton. The funding of the projects are through a generous donation of $10,000 by a prominent local foundation, with an additional $2,000 raised from contributions from neighborhood residents and the East Congregational Church.

Kenneth Lewandowski, an architect and board member of the Friends of Crane Field, will be submitting a tree planting plan for approval by the Park Department. The plan is to plant the trees on the weekend of November 14-15.

The Rotarians were very interested to hear what this neighborhood group is doing. They have been assisting the group by holding their funds as a project of the Milton Rotary Foundation. They all agreed that they would like to hear from other neighborhood groups.

If you would like to contribute to the fund to improve Crane Field, please send your check payable to “Milton Rotary Foundation, Inc.” P. O. Box 243 Milton, MA 02186. Please mark in the subject line “For Friends of Crane Field”.
