Mystery drama The Speckled Band to be performed Sat. Sept. 20 at Milton Library, 2 PM.
“The band! the speckled band!” whispered Holmes.
Mr. Sherlock Holmes, the great detective, has often said that, “when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” This adage will be demonstrated this Saturday, September 20, 2014, in the Keys room of the Milton Public Library when the improbable becomes the solution to a crime. A dramatic reading of “The Adventures of the Speckled Band” will be performed at 2 P.M. by the popular Milton Players. It is part of the annual Milton Reads town-wide reading program. The performance is free and suitable for most folks. Spoiler alert: there’s been a murder!
In the story, Miss Helen Stoner comes to Mr. Sherlock Holmes about the mysterious death of her twin sister, whose last words were, “Oh, my God! Helen! It was the band! The speckled band!” Holmes will tackle the case.
Milton Reads, now in its third season, is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The current book is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. “The Adventures of the Speckled Band” is considered one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s best stories, and it was his favorite. A booklet containing the story is available for free at the Library. You’ll love it.
