The Milton Library Foundation 10th Annual Literary Gala, Where Stories Begin, will feature renowned authors and friends, Dr. Lisa Genova and Greg O’Brien who have both eloquently covered the topic of Alzheimer’s. The evening will also celebrate the Foundation’s 10th anniversary, highlighting its history, numerous milestones and offer a glimpse into the future.
Dr. Lisa Genova is the New York Times bestselling author of Left Neglected, Love Anthony and Still Alice, which will soon come to life as a major motion picture. While traveling worldwide, Genova has dedicated her life to speaking about Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury and autism. She has appeared on the Dr. Oz Show, the Diane Rehm Show, CNN, Chronicle, Fox News, and Canada AM and was featured in the Emmy award-winning documentary film, TO NOT FADE AWAY. Lisa’s fourth novel is about a family living with Huntington’s disease. She now lives with her family on Cape Cod.
Greg O’Brien, a long-time reporter and newspaperman, authored the upcoming book On Pluto: inside the mind of Alzheimer’s after he was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s. Acting on instinct and journalistic grit, he has decided to face down the disease and his imminent decline by writing frankly about the journey in his upcoming book. Although Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the US, O’Brien’s inspiring work focuses on living with Alzheimer’s not dying with it. He is the former editor and publisher of the Cape Codder and an award-winning writer at the Boston Herald and Boston Magazine.

We have one more author in Milton now. Chris Berdik has moved to his family’s new home on Highland Street. His first book “Mind Over Mind” was published in 2012, but he has written and edited extensively, including for the Boston Globe, The Atlantic, and Mother Jones. His early 2014 story on Cambodia’s Tonle Sap waterways and fishing changing ecology and damming projects was published online at http://www.vqronline.org/node/17017 – worth reading!
