Janet Sheehan, principal of Collicot Elementary School here in Milton, has been appointed to the position of interim Assistant Superintendent according to a statement on the MPS web site.
Sheehan has been the principal at Collicot for the past three years. Prior to her time in Milton she was prinipal at the Joseph Osgood Elementary School in Cohasset for ten years. Sheehan is had previous experience in Milton where she served as Assistant Principal at the Collicot Elementary School from 1994-2001.
In making the appointment Ms. Gormley said:
“Ms. Sheehan’s commitment to education, strong leadership skills and experience with curriculum and professional development will be tremendous assets in her new position. We are fortunate to have a leader with this unique set of skills to fill such an important role in the Milton Public Schools.”
Ms. Sheehan’s appointment is not surprising. The Milton Public Schools frequently hire from within the system. Mr. Jette current MHS principal had previously been principal at Pierce Middle School. His replacement, Karen Spaulding, had previously been principal at Cunningham and John Phelan, the assistant superintendent Ms. Sheehan is replacing, had a long history in the Milton school system.
Gormley noted that a search is underway for a new principal at Collicot and she hopes an announcement within the next few weeks.
