Monday Night at the Movies: “Saving Mr. Banks” at the Milton Library

The Milton Public Library invites you to a special free showing of the film “Saving Mr. Banks” on Monday, June 23rd, at 6:30 p.m., in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the library, located at 476 Canton Avenue in Milton.  This free event, sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library, is open to the public.

“Saving Mr. Banks” tells the surprising story behind the making of the film, “Mary Poppins.”  When Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) finally meets the author of Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson),  he soon realizes she will not be won over into signing him the rights to her story.  It is only when Walt recalls the memories of his own childhood that he is able to understand Travers, and learn the truth behind her story of Mary Poppins.  This story of understanding is what ultimately brings Mary Poppins to life on the screen.

Directed by John Lee Hancock and starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, “Saving Mr. Banks” received an Academy Award nomination for music by composer Thomas Newman, as well as nominations from the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild for best performances and music.  Rated PG-13. (125 Minutes).
