St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton, MA is pleased to offer details for Holy Week and Easter services and celebrations. Current parishioners, as well as new families and individuals seeking an inviting church to celebrate Christ and the Christian faith, are invited with open arms and open hearts to attend.
Palm Sunday, April 13 – Mark the beginning of Holy Week with the Procession of Palms and Passion Gospel Reading. Services take place at 8am and 10am.
Maundy Thursday, April 17 – On Thursday, commemorate the mandate (from which “maundy” is derived) given by Jesus at his last supper that we love one another as he has loved us. Simple supper begins at 6:45pm, with Holy Eucharist, foot washing and stripping of the altar, following at 7:30pm.
Good Friday, April 18 – Good Friday Liturgy will be held at noon. A special Good Friday Concert will be held at 7:30pm, with a reflection from the Rector at 7pm. Under the direction of St. Michael’s Director of Music, Frank Van Atta, the Chancel Choir will join forces with the St. Michael’s Orchestra to present Mozart’s Requiem, along with the late John Tavener’s Eternal Memory for cello and orchestra. A reception follows.
Holy Saturday, April 19 – Join us at 8am in the church for a brief and contemplative service of prayers and readings in the interval between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday, April 20
- Easter Sunrise Service – Sunrise is at 6:60am on April 20th! Our sunrise service will begin at 5:45am in the Garden of Seasons, next to the chapel.
- 9am Easter Sunday Holy Eucharist with Children’s Homily – Celebrate Easter at 9am with our young parishioners, and enjoy a children’s homily followed by Holy Eucharist. An Easter Egg Hunt follows, and all children are invited to choose a plant from St. Michael’s Garden of Repose in the Memorial Chapel to take home as an Easter gift. Nursery care is available during the 9amservice.
- 11am Easter Sunday Holy Eucharist – Holy Eucharist with sermon will take place at 11am.
