Film series at Beth Shalom screens Mamadrama
“Mamadrama: The Jewish Mother in Cinema” will be the concluding film in this season’s Winter Movie Series of Cong. Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills (formerly Temple Shalom of Milton and Temple Beth El of Quincy), co-sponsored by Milton’s First Congregational Church. The film, part of the series theme: “Strong and Funny Women,” will be screened on Saturday evening, February 15th, at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:45) in Huntington Hall of the First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Avenue, Milton, with entry at the rear door. The film series is open to the public.
In “Mamadrama,” Australian director Monique Schwarz takes a funny, penetrating look at how the loving and affectionate portrayals in early films developed into the stereotyped Jewish Mother of modern Hollywood and, conversely, the more flesh and blood characterizations in contemporary Israeli cinema. The film features a number of hilarious clips from Hollywood movies, as well as rare Yiddish films and Israeli features.
The donation for admission is $3.00 per person, or two for $5.00. Advance reservations get a free popcorn or bottle of water.
