News release from Milton Committee Against Aviation Impact
Members of Milton Committee Against Aviation Impact (MCAAI), met with Patrick Lally, aide to Senator Ed Markey on January 10 to discuss concerns about excessive aircraft traffic over Milton. Newly elected Boston City Councilor Tim McCarthy, who represents the Hyde Park district of Boston, that is impacted by the same flight routes., also attended the meeting.
According to co-chair Sheryl Fleitman, Lally told them that the entire Massachusetts Congressional delegation will be meeting with the FAA at the end of January. Therefore, the committee is urging all Milton residents affected by aircraft noise to voice concerns now to Senators Markey and Warren and Congressmen Lynch and Capuano, who also serves on the House subcommittee on transportation which oversees the FAA.
Congressmen Lynch and Capuano were in Milton in December for a public meeting organized by the Committee to discuss Milton citizens’ concerns about excessive aircraft traffic over the town.
Residents who want more information about where to write can contact Sheryl Fleitman at 339-987-0499 The Committee also invites all concerned residents to join and assist in whatever capacity they can.
Ms. Fleitman also added that the the Selectmen will also write to our federally elected representatives on behalf of the town to voice their concerns.
In the near future, the Committee will host Boston University Professor Jonathan Levy to discuss recenty published research about the negative health impacts of airplane noise.
The Committee advises residents to call Massport’s Complaint Line at 617-561-3333 or complain online to express concerns about disturbing airplane noise: “You can call several times a day if you are disturbed several times a day,” says Ms. Fleitman. “They count the total number of calls as well as the total number of different individuals who call, so calling is an important way for Milton to document the level of disturbance we are experiencing.”
