Tom Shaw of Boston (and a MHS Physics teacher) took first place in the men’s division of today’s Monster Dash. Candy Angle of Weymouth was the first women’s finisher on a day that turned sunny with a perfect temperature for running. Four hundred and sixty-two runners finished the race, which has become a staple of Milton’s annual road race calendar. It was organized by the Milton Foundation for Education.

The race has grown into quite a family event that includes a variety of activities for children including hula hoop competitions, balloon chasing, and a host of other fun games that all involve burning energy.

The race is run in the memory of Sam Cichello, a Tucker school elementary student who died following a playground accident in 1999. Proceeds benefit science education in the Milton Public Schools. This year was the 15th running of the event and one organizer estimated it might have been a record crowd.
