Fontbonne Academy will host The Walk for the Ellie Fund, a 5-mile walk thought the streets of Milton on Sunday, September 29. The walk will begin at 8:15 a.m. Student, friends, family, alumnae, and neighbors will gather at Fontbonne and walk to help make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Partnering with Fontbonne in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, The Ellie Fund is a non-profit organization that helps ease the effects of breast cancer on patients and families in Massachusetts. “Fontbonne students are truly committed to helping others, and the Ellie Fund Walk gives our students the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills and demonstrate their commitment,” says Katy Denning, Director, Office of Mission and Ministry at Fontbonne Academy.
Student leaders Erin Cawley ’14 of Dedham and Collette O’Connor ’14 of Pembroke have already begun fund-raising at Fontbonne. They have set up a bright pink table in the Fontbonne cafeteria which allows students to register, pledge, and make tributes to friends and loved ones who are fighting cancer. After just two days, proceeds far exceeded expectations. “We are really excited to bring the community together to help fight this disease,” said Collette. Proceeds from the walk will be donated to The Ellie Fund.
The Ellie Fund provides critical support services including transportation to medical appointments, childcare, housekeeping, groceries, and nutritious prepared/delivered meals free of charge to hundreds of women and family members across Massachusetts each year. Their support services are offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of volunteers, friends, donors and sponsors. All services are provided by caring, licensed professionals.
The surrounding community is welcome to join the walk or contribute to the cause. A link is on the Fontbonne website www.fontbonneacademy.org to donate or register. You may also call Fontbonne’s Office of Mission & Ministry at 617.615.3041 to make arrangments.
