It is with regret that we report that Judge George Hurd has passed away.
Judge Hurd was remarkable and, doubtless, his obituary will list his achievements, accomplishments and successes. They were many. And there will be many stories told and memories recalled.
I met Judge Hurd through my involvement with the Friends of Milton Crew (FOMC). Judge Hurd was an avid rower in his college days. He sculled in a single at Harvard and like much of what he did – he was very good at it. He was a tremendous supporter of our crew program and the student athletes. The Friends sponsor a novice regatta every fall, the South Shore Invitational. The trophy awarded to the boys winner was named in the Judge’s honor and he presented the trophy to the winners the past two years. We will miss him this year.
But while I am very grateful for all the support he has given the FOMC over the last two years that is not what impressed me the most about him. What was most unique, these days, was his incredible sense of personal grace, courtesy, and good will.
There are many who knew the Judge much better than I and their sense of loss will be great. Funeral arrangements will be posted when they become available.
