MPD Notice: Situational Awareness Alert –

Notice from the Milton Police Department – note, you can “friend” the MPD on Facebook.

RESIDENTS -Please read this post very carefully. This is a SITUATIONAL AWARENESS ALERT that was disseminated to MPD from the Boston Police Regional Intelligence Center. (BRIC)

Boston and Randolph Police have recently seen an increase in residential breaks. The first reports of these crimes came as early as May but the past week has seen an increase. This unique type offense is referred to as a “Distraction B&E.” The targets of these crimes are almost always the elderly.

The suspects always use a ruse such as they are a contractor or landscaper or fence installer working in a neighboring yard. They usually approach the victims house and ask them to accompany them to a back yard location using a fabricated story such as we want to make sure we don’t cross over onto your property line, or something of that nature. Once the resident is distracted and out in the backyard, a second suspect enters the home and removes jewelry and other such valuables. The suspects in the Randolph case drove a dark SUV. Others suspects have driven a white box truck and another group, a mini van.

This Situational Alert is especially important for our seniors. We have no information of an incident of this nature in Milton, but the information sent to us from Boston and Randolph indicate the possibility of such a crime for our community. These suspects are very smooth. They do not want to alarm you. Please be wary of any contractor or vendor who comes to you door that was NOT HIRED BY YOU. Never be afraid to call MPD if someone comes to your door. We already are very familiar with 99% of the business contractors, utility companies and other legitimate outfits that work in Milton. if you are reading this and you have a parent or friend who is a senior or has a family member that you think this alert applies too, please share this bulletin. Thank you.
