Burglaries an issue – MPD issue reminder on need to keep houses, cars locked

The Milton Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant and to be sure to lock their cars and homes when you are out. They have included the text of a community alert email from the Boston Police Department listing incidents and their tips for staying safe. We hope everyone is enjoying this peaceful Sunday. Over the past year, MPD has held many community meetings and posted dozens of public appeals regarding residential burglaries. The department has had much success and made many arrests. Several of these coming from information provided by residents. This type of crime however continues to plague all communities in Metro Boston. Attached is a memo issued by BPD this week showing just how seriously they are being impacted by break ins. PLEASE, lock your WINDOWS AND DOORS when you are out. Pay attention to people in your neighborhood that are not familiar to you. ALWAYS call 911 if you think an individual or person in your area is suspicious. Pay particular attention to individuals entering a driveway or backyard. Thanks for listening!!!
Community Alert: Boston Police Investigating Residential Burglaries in Dorchester

The Boston Police Department is issuing a Community Alert following multiple incidents of Residential Burglaries in Dorchester. The incident descriptions are as follows:

#1. At about 5:10PM, Monday, June 17th, 2013 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Breaking and Entering in the area of 26 Crockett Ave. in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim’s brother who stated that his sister’s residence had been broken into and her property had been stolen. The suspect(s) had entered the residence by way of the back door.

#2. At about 8:00PM, Monday, June 17th, 2013 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Breaking and Entering in the area of 12 Fossdale Rd. in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that her residence had been broken into and her property had been stolen. The suspect(s) had entered the residence by way of the back door.

#3. At about 12:20PM, Friday, June 21st, 2013 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Breaking and Entering in the area of 4 Shenandoah St. in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that his residence had been broken into and his property had been stolen. The suspect(s) had entered the residence by way of the basement door.

#4. At about 4:35PM, Monday, June 24th, 2013 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Breaking and Entering in the area of 28 Burgoyne St. in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that his residence had been broken into and his property had been stolen. The suspect(s) had entered the residence by way of the kitchen window.

#5. At about 12:11AM, Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Breaking and Entering in the area of 32 Laban Pratt Rd. in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that her residence had been broken into and her property had been stolen. The suspect(s) had entered the residence by way of the back door.

#6. At about 7:54PM, Wednesday, June 26th, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a Breaking and Entering in the area of 32 Glenrose Road in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that he had encountered Suspect #1, a White Hispanic male, about 6’ 00” tall and 175 lbs, wearing a black backpack in his home. The victim chased him out of his home and down the street, where he observed the suspect jump into a Blue Ford Expedition with a partial Massachusetts Registration ***KP1, which was being operated by Suspect #2, a dark skinned black male.

The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding these incidents. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact Detectives at Area C-11 (Dorchester) at 617-343-4335.

Community members who wish to remain anonymous should either call the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477) or text the word TIP to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department will stringently protect the identity of those who wish to remain anonymous.

Tips for Keeping Your Home Safe:

• A strong door is a good door. Solid wooden doors or doors reinforced with steel offer greater protection than hollow core wooden doors.
• Use safe locks. Adding quality deadbolt locks to your exterior doors adds and provides greater security to your residence.
• Lock your windows especially those that are easily accessible to unwanted intruders. Windows on the first floor or basement levels should always be locked.
• In a single family home or a multi-dwelling building, the outer hallway door should always be locked. Access to the inner hallway, provides access to anyone who seeks to break into your residence.
• Know your neighbors and keep an eye out for them and their property. Consider having a neighbor or friend watch your home when you’re on vacation.
• Consider joining or organizing a Neighborhood Crime Watch group. For more info on how to join, call (617) 343.4345.
• Call 911 to report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
• Call your local district station and request a home security analysis.
• Don’t leave valuables where they can be seen from outside the home.
• Make sure Roommates and other tenants know to keep their doors and windows locked
