News release from Office of Senator Brian A. Joyce
Funds provided to reimburse town for costs related to injured Milton firefighter Antonio Pickens
Senator Brian A. Joyce is pleased to announce that the supplemental budget passed by the Senate includes $300,000 for the town of Milton as partial reimbursement for the extraordinary health care costs related to fully supporting injured Milton firefighter Antonio Pickens. Pickens was critically injured when he was struck by a drunk driver while assisting at a car crash scene in 2007. Since then, the town has borne significant costs related to ensuring Pickens receives proper medical treatment. Joyce’s measure, if accepted by the House and governor, would partially offset that cost and allow such funds to be used in areas like public safety, education, public works, or other municipal purposes.
“This reimbursement will assist the town of Milton in making the necessary payments to help support this courageous man and free up capital for additional town priorities,” said Joyce.
As a result of the accident, Pickens suffered massive trauma to his body and head and has endured several years of rigorous therapies and rehabilitation. For his bravery, Pickens has received a Medal of Valor from Governor Deval Patrick.
