A benefactor has come forward to preserve the mural of The Milton Woman’s Club. The mural is an historical and artistic treasure. Painted by Milton resident Jeannie Ursula Dupee, the mural was at risk. The property is in the process of being sold and the building is eventually going to be torn down. But while the building may go, it now appears that the mural will live on.
The plight of the mural has received quite a bit of press coverage over the last several days. The Patriot Ledger, WBZ, and Channel 7 WHDH have all published accounts regarding the loss of the mural.
Learning of the mural’s potential loss, Gregory Zazula, picked up the phone and called the Woman’s Club. Deanna Seymourian of the Woman’s Club met with Mr. Zazula who said he will bring the resources necessary to save the mural, store it, and work for its long term preservation. Ms. Seymourian said she was hoping for a fairy godfather or godmother and one appeared.
This is great news for the club and for the town. Ms. Seymourian said the sale of the building is moving forward, though she acknowledged “we are all sad about it.”
