Cultural Council open to new members

One of Milton’s most rewarding and easiest volunteer committees is seeking new members. Membership on the Milton Cultural Council is open to persons interested in awarding grants for programs in local arts and cultural activities. For the year 2013 grants totaling $6,296.00 were awarded by the committee from funds provided by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The committee meets about six evenings a year, normally for less than two hours. What could be more fun than to give away money for good causes in such a short space of time!

Grantees for the year 2013 included Milton Players, First Parish Unitarian, Milton Art Museum at Massasoit Community College, Glover, Cunningham, and Collicott Elementary Schools, Milton Art Center, Milton Council on Aging, and music/ art programs at the Milton Public Library. New applications for grants for the year 2014 should be filed in early October at the Selectmen’s Office.

Members of the cultural council are Chair, Tosin Olaniyan; Secretary, David Levy; Treasurer, Douglas Lantigua, William Mullen, Veronica Guerrero-Macia, Peggy Dray, Beth Neville, and Aatiyah Paulding. Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen for two consecutive three-year terms. To become a member email Tosin Olaniyan at Tosy_@hotmail.com or provide your name and phone number to the Town Selectmen’s office.
