The East Congregational Church announces its Third Annual Drum Circle. This event will be led by members of HandReach, an organization which for 10 years has focussed on providing trauma therapy to children in the U.S. and abroad, particularly amputees and severe burn victims. Having witnessed the healing power of drumming in their therapy sessions, HandReach formed a team focussed on drumming, called the Beat Brigade.
More information about HandReach and the Beat Brigade is available online here.
A drum circle is a group of people playing hand-drums (such as djembes, bongos, etc.) and percussion instruments (such as tambourines, cowbells or klaves), with the goal of synchronization. Participants in a Drum Circle seek to establish and maintain a rhythm together. A drum circle can be at the same time a fun and a deeply meditative experience.
The public is welcome to this event. This is a fundraising event for HandReach, and a suggested donation of $10 per person will be collected at the door (doors open at 1:30 PM). Attendees who are already drummers are welcome to bring their own hand-drums or percussion instruments. The HandReach team brings plenty of instruments (and stories) for everyone else. East Church’s “Milk & Honey Baking Collaborative” will have goodies available to purchase.
East Congregational Church is handicap accessible. There is ample free parking. Please enter the church by the rear parking lot entrance and proceed downstairs to Fellowship Hall.
