Fontbonne Academy Hosts the 14th Annual Evening of Stars Gala

News release from Fontbonne Academy

Fontbonne Academy will be holding its gala fundraiser, the 14th Annual Evening of Stars, on Saturday, March 23, at 6 p.m. at Lombardo’s in Randolph. Tickets are $115 per person and include dinner, silent and live auctions, and d.j. and dancing.

At this year’s Evening of Stars event, Fontbonne will highlight the school’s health and wellness programs and will present its prestigious Stellar Award to those who have made significant contributions to such efforts both within Fontbonne Academy and beyond her walls.

In keeping with this year’s theme, Fontbonne will be presenting their prestigious Stellar Award to individuals who serve as role models for the young women at the school. Ellen Sullivan of Scituate, the athletic director and chairperson of health and physical education at Fontbonne will be honored. Ms. Sullivan is celebrating 40 years at Fontbonne Academy this year. Also being honored that evening will be Dr. Catherine Hayes of Newton, a Fontbonne alumna, and a public health dentist and advocate for equality in oral health. Dr. Hayes has made a commitment to public health dentistry and access to dental care for all, particularly for inner-city children. Additionally the school’s Health and Physical Education Department will be honored. The department includes Wellness Director Keri McPhillips of Hingham and Physical Education, Health Teacher Maria Devine of Walpole, and School Nurse Sue Katchpole of Braintree. Fontbonne’s athletics, health & wellness programs encourage young women to make life-long healthy choices in areas of food, exercise, relationships and all facets of their lives, preparing them well for their lives beyond Fontbonne.

Proceeds from Evening of Stars not only help to provide scholarships and financial aid to some of the school’s brightest students, but will also help the school reach its goal of providing financial assistance to every qualified student who is seeking a Fontbonne education. In addition, a portion from this year’s proceeds will support the school’s athletics, health & wellness department.

Founded in 1954 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, Fontbonne Academy is known for its academic excellence and rigor. In addition to exceptional academics, Fontbonne’s current programs include thirteen highly competitive varsity and intramural sports and more than two dozen clubs and performing arts organizations. Students are required to perform a minimum of 100 hours of community service and complete a year long social justice project prior to graduation. Last year, 100% of Fontbonne’s graduates were accepted to four-year colleges and were awarded nearly $9.2 million in grants and scholarships, a clear indication of the superb education Fontbonne provides.
