All school art show reception draws a crowd

IMG_0334Last Saturday an art reception in the Keys Room of the Milton Public Library drew a diverse crowd. The one of a kind show featured student art work from almost all of Milton’s public and private schools. St. Mary’s of the Hills, Delphi Academy, Thacher Montessori, the Cunningham, Collicot, Glover, and Tucker elementary schools, the upper and lower schools of Milton Academy, and the Pierce Middle School are all represented.

The work includes acrylics, water colors, sculptures, drawings, collages, and bottles! The bottles were inspired by a great painter who, unable to obtain canvas, painted wine bottles.

The event was produced by Artspace Milton, a local arts organization that seeks to engage the community in learning, creating and enjoying art. “This is work worth seeing,” said Janet Gilmore, a member of Artspace Milton. “It gets the work out of their respective schools and provides a community venue, our library, to showcase a passion we all share. It’s good for the students and it is good for the town.”

Laurinda O’Connor, art teacher at St. Mary’s commented, “What a wonderful event you created for all those kids. The work is really impressive and each student and family member was so proud… as they should be!”
