The upcoming elections are a work in progress. It is very early but some papers have been pulled:
- School Committee – Hiss & Padera ~ No Pavlickek
- Selectmen – Sweeney & Conlon
- Library Trustee – Crichlow & Czwakiel – No Evans
- Planning Board – Alex Whiteside
Bob Sweeney is up for re-election to Board of Selectmen and Katie Conlon a past chair of Warrant Committee may challenge him. She has not formally announced but has taken out papers. Similarly, Becky Padera who was appointed to the School Committee to serve out the remainder of Denis Keohane’s term, has also pulled papers as has Bob Hiss. Mr. Hiss is the chair of the Republican Town Committee and he announced his intention to run for the School Committee at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club. Longstanding committee member and current Chair Glenn Pavlicek is rumored not be running (we have not confirmed that). Therefore there are currently 2 candidates for two seats.
Alex Whiteside, current chair of the Planning Board, pulled papers this morning
There are three seats open on Library Board of Trustees. Current trustees Hyacinth Crichlow and Ray Czwakiel have pulled papers. Janet Evans has not.
Bill Bennett is an incumbent and only candidate in running for Assessor. The same is true of Jim McAuliffe as Treasurer.
On the state level – one of our congressmen, Stephen Lynch, will be announcing his intent to run for the U.S. Senate. The senate primary is the same day as our town election, April 30th. This will require two separate ballots according to Sue Galvin, Town Clerk. Ms. Galvin estimates that approximately 40% of town meeting members up for re-election have returned their cards indicating they will be running again. Sitting town meeting members have until March 5th to return those cards. Anyone interested in running for town meeting (or any other office) is encouraged to contact the Town Clerk, Susan Galvin.
